It was a little early in the year so nothing was open at the top, aside from a train car with self served coffee and hot cocoa. We were invited up to the cab, and given a rough rundown on the engine and controls. We met Joe outside while waiting for our train to get ready, and we were asking about the engine. I'm very happy with how accommodating, and helpful she was. Faith called me back, and we were able to move our trip to the next day with a small fee. A few days prior, with the weather not looking favorable, I called and left them a message at their base station. We booked the trip up the mountain about a week prior, and the weather looked good. Everyone was knowledgeable, professional and kind. Nice gift shop and a little room with history of the rail line also included. They will have a photographer take a picture of your part and turn it into a small magnet for $15 at the end of your trip. Once compact down the snow is slippery and it is an incline. They do have plenty of restrooms at the base station and a portable restroom at the mid-mountain stop on the way back down.īecareful at the mid-mountain stop if it's snowed. Trains do not have bathrooms, just not that type of train car. Special cookies were also fresh and tasty. The kids loved roasting marshmallows and the adults enjoyed the atmosphere as well as beverages. On the way back down you stop for treats and photos on your own. She had to duck down at one point due to winds, however we felt safe the whole time. The front door was open for the guide to watch the tracks on the way up. The train car has a little heat to take the chill off but it's not always enclosed. We dressed in layers and brought warm gear. The weather didn't exactly cooperate with rain and snow showers but the staff made it fun. We did the opening day of the skyline run.
